THE GREAT DICTATOR

Chaplin’s iconic satire blends comedy and poignant social commentary in a daring critique of fascism and tyranny. Through humor and heart, THE GREAT DICTATOR conveys a powerful message of hope, humanity, and the absurdity of totalitarian regimes.

The music, composed by Chaplin himself with Meredith Willson, serves as a powerful backdrop to the film’s timeless message. In addition to Chaplin’s signature music the use of classical pieces by Richard Wagner and Johannes Brahms provide the basis for unforgettable pantomimic creations such as the iconic balloon globe sequence choreographed to the Prelude from “Lohengrin”. In 1941 THE GREAT DICTATOR was nominated for five Academy Awards, including Best Original Score.
