THE ADVENTURER, the Mutual’s most popular short film, begins and ends with a car chase. It’s the fastest film in the series, and though it has more slapstick than EASY STREET and THE IMMIGRANT, it’s redeemed by its construction, characterization and Chaplin’s balletic grace. A famous moment in the film shows Charlie spilling ice cream down the front of his oversized pants.
