Moderation

“Nino Rota had already composed his famous love theme for ‘The Godfather’ in 1958 for the Italian comedy ‘Fortunella’. When those responsible for the Oscars found out about this, his nomination for ‘Best Film Score’ was immediately withdrawn. Nevertheless, he won the coveted trophy a few years later for ‘The Godfather Part II.'” – An accompanying moderation can enhance a concert with valuable background information and thus bring the audience closer to a work.
For this purpose, we work with established actors or presenters who can be suggested by us or determined by the organiser. Our team of music and film scholars drafts the respective texts as a fully formed version or in the form of bullet points.
It is crucial for us to create a balance in the project development by coordinating individual elements – such as lighting design and film clips – and setting them aside in favour of other components if necessary. In close discussions with the organisers, we decide, based on the respective programme, when a presentation can be supportive – be it to introduce a new generation to a topic, to build bridges between different pieces of music or to share our passion with aficionados of film music. It is not only the music itself that connects – it is our shared passion for film music as a complex art form.
