ALICE HELPS THE ROMANCE

This title, together with three other Alice films, forms the concert programme ALICE’S ADVENTURES IN WONDERLAND.

There is pure joy and strong applause when Dessau finishes his score to ALICE HELPS THE ROMANCE. The cat is not allowed to ask, not allowed to think, not allowed to despair, not allowed to rejoice without funny speech music carrying his silent struggle with the objects and with the rival to us. The rival is covered with the dance motif from Jonny spielt auf (Jonny Plays Up). Sharply contoured, but in essence mild and in content speaking setting leads the film play to effect and the hilarity gains highlights through Dessau’s love for this courageous little animal. After Julius’ treasure is stolen by his rival, Alice hatches a devious plan to discredit the rival and return the treasure to Julius.
