Newsletter I OF LEGENDS AND FAIRYTALES I Nov & Dec 2023

Dear FilmPhilharmonic friends and partners,

European and American fables and mythologies converge in our concert agenda for the next two months.

The fascination for Hollywood and its coveted golden statuette is the common backbone of the programs Hollywood in Bern and 10 movies – 10 decades – 10 Oscars, two glamourous opportunities to experience in concert some of the most iconic compositions by Vangelis, Miklós Rózsa, Hans Zimmer, Maurice Jarre, John Barry and Alexandre Desplat, among many others.

F.W. Murnau‘s masterpiece DER LETZTE MANN is accompanied by Frank Strobel and Stuttgarter Philharmoniker with the original score composed in 1924 by the great-grandfather of European film music, Giuseppe Becce. Half a century later Czech composer Karel Svoboda composed the unforgettable and enchanting score for THREE WISHES FOR CINDERELLA, a fairytale rediscovered in concert by young and old generations alike year after year during Christmas season. Check our concert tour below.

Finally, the music of legendary Italian composer Ennio Morricone is explored in our new program Ennio Morricone: Per un’immagine. For the very first time Frank Strobel and the Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra, joined by the RTS Choir and Choir Obilić, will perform in concert pieces from THE MISSION, EN MAI FAIS CE QU’IL TE PLAIT, THE THING, NOVECENTO, THE HATEFUL EIGHT and others. Additionally, composer and host Sven Helbig has turned to Morricone for two pieces for his program Schöne Töne Live, which will feature Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin performing the concert piece ARCATE DI ARCHI. MEDITAZIONE IN RE MAGGIORE and Deborah’s Theme from ONCE UPON A TIME IN AMERICA.

These concerts will be kickstarting a historical collaboration between EFPI and the Ennio Morricone Estate.

Stay tuned!
