Newsletter I FILM AND MUSIC TO COME I March & April 2023

Dear FilmPhilharmonic Friends and Partners,

The next two months are filled with classic film and symphonic music galore. METROPOLIS, DIE NIBELUNGEN, BATTELSHIP POTEMKIN or THE NEW BABYLON are just some of the gems reconstructed for live performance by our Artistic Director Frank Strobel and reaching symphonic orchestras worldwide.

The World Premiere of the visionary British film THINGS TO COME is definitely one of the highlights of our agenda. Adapted from H.G. WellsThe Shape of Things to Come, the film from 1936 preserves the pertinency of its subject: global welfare, global pandemic, rise of autocrats and dictators and high-tech utopia.

It was Wells‘ who personally persuaded Sir Arthur Bliss to compose the film score, to outstanding results. And it was no other than the London Symphony Orchestra who recorded Bliss‘ famous score back in 1936. Under the baton of Frank Strobel the legendary orchestra returns to Bliss‘ milestone composition nearly nine decades later. Finally, THINGS TO COME is taking FilmConcert shape.
