AELITA – DER FLUG ZUM MARS

“Anta… Odeli … Uta”: these words from outer space reach Moscow in 1921 amidst the new Comunist reality and bring together Engineer Los (Nikolai Tsereteli) and Aelita, Queen of Mars (Yuliya Solntseva). Between the science fiction tale and the political parable, AELITA also stands out for its daring interplanetary romance and the glorious Constructivist settings and costume designs by Aleksandra Ekster and Isaak Rabinovich for the Martian court. Definitely, one of the most unique examples of Soviet cinema.

In composing an original score for the film in 2010, the young Russian composer Dmitri Kourliandski (born in 1976) wanted to „place the film back in the acoustic universe of the time“, that of noise, while creating „a distance with the image“.
