Newsletter I SUMMER VIBES I Summer 2024

Dear FilmPhilharmonic friends and partners,

As summer is bringing a wave of exciting sports events, our agenda remains vibrant with Film Music concerts. Whether under the open sky or within concert halls, the atmosphere will be invigorated by symphonic programs featuring music from legendary composers like John Williams and Hans Zimmer, as well as by the timeless comedies by Charlie Chaplin and Laurel & Hardy.

Belgium and Denmark set the stage for two special events. First, the Flanders Festival Orchestra, conducted by Dirk Brossé, will enchant audiences with classics like Elmer Bernstein’s THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN and James Horner’s TITANIC in three open-air performances of our program ‚Heroes of the Silver Screen‘. Next, the Danish National Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of Christian Schumann, will bring Hollywood glamour to Copenhagen with „A Night at the Oscars“, rolling out a musical red carpet for unforgettable scores by John BarryNino RotaAlan SilvestriBernard Herrmann and Ennio Morricone, among others.

Finally, Switzerland offers the perfect blend of film music and sports with Frank Strobel conducting Marcel Barsotti’s music for DAS WUNDER VON BERN (THE MIRACLE OF BERN), performed by the extraordinary Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich live-to-picture. Hailed as the „best football film ever“ (Tagesspiegel, Berlin), Sönke Wortmann’s portrayal of the 1954 Football World Cup final and its national significance is beautifully enhanced by Marcel Barsotti’s evocative score. From playful harp melodies to stirring brass anthems the music weaves through the narrative, heightening the film’s emotional impact. DAS WUNDER VON BERN transcends football, captivating audiences with its blend of history, family dynamics and the transformative power of music.

Wishing you a musical and peaceful summertime,
Your FilmPhilharmonie
