Dear FilmPhilharmonic Friends and Partners,

We are pleased to present to you the concert agenda for this spring. If you never had the occasion to experience milestones like VERTIGO, MODERN TIMES, NOSFERATU or THE NEW BABYLON in concert, now is your chance to rediscover the original scores by Bernard HerrmannCharles ChaplinHans Erdmann and Dmitri Shostakovich performed live-to-picture by world-class orchestras and conductors.

An enlightening and entertaining concert based on Metin Tolan’s book „The STAR TREK Physics“ will take you into the 23rd century hand in hand with legendary composers like Jerry GoldsmithAlexander CourageLeonard Rosenman and James Horner, among others. This season is also an occasion to celebrate composer Mychael Danna’s Lifetime Achievement Award in Soundtrack Cologne, where the WDR Funkhausorchester will perform gems like LIFE OF PI and MONSOON WEDDING.

Last but not least, the classic fantasy film THE LOST WORLD (1925) premieres as a roaring FilmConcert with new music composed by German composer Ludger Vollmer. An adaptation of Arthur Conan Doyle’s novel, the film was restored with its lush original tints in 2016 and selected for preservation by the National Film Registry at the Library of Congress. Filmed 68 years before JURASSIC PARK (1993), it is arguably the most influential Dinosaur movie of all time. With the captivating new composition by Ludger Vollmer blending symphonic jazz grooves with prehistoric monsters, the Dinosaurs by stop-motion pioneer Willis O’Brien are ruling again the earth propelled by the Capitol Symphonie Orchester under the baton of Stefanos Tsialis.
