Film Concerts & Film Music Concerts - What is that?

Film Concerts & Film Music Concerts - What is that?

The Film Concert presents original and new compositions, which are performed live and synchronized to projection.

The centrepiece of our range of services consists of the film concert package, which includes both a print of the respective film and the associated music material. It also includes DVD/video material for rehearsals, PR material and clarification of the performance rights. Furthermore, we provide practical solutions for the technical realisation of the cinema projection in your house as well as overseeing its on-site set-up. Depending on your needs, you can either request our services on an individual basis or entrust us with the complete coordination of your project.

The Film Music Concert provides programs of film music, which are able to develop their own quality also without the film.

The EUROPEAN FILMPHILHARMONIC INSTITUTE team develops its own concepts for film music concerts as well as working on commission. We carry out research on specific film music titles among music publishers worldwide or negotiate directly with the composers themselves. Furthermore, we organize the dramaturgical compilation of the titles and turn them into a programme. You can, however, also order individual titles from FILMPHILHARMONIC EDITION. In addition, we have built up our own film music archive and hold various titles that are not available for rent from publishers. To put the finishing touches to the programme, we also prepare presentation texts interweaving exciting film and music anecdotes with film history.

The EUROPEAN FILMPHILHARMONIC INSTITUTE has been consistently researching original music, new scorings and restored film prints. In this endeavour, the company receives creative assistance from numerous composers, conductors, editors, arrangers, dramatic advisors, musicologists and filmologists.

The result of this work is the FILMPHILHARMONIC EDITION, a catalogue including over 100 film concerts and film music concerts. Projects for the EDITION are selected according to artistic considerations and the feasibility of potential performances, which depends, among other factors, on the condition of the material, the instrumentation and the specific legal situation. Our collection of material data relating to silent film projects and film music works is unique.

LOW / HEROES

LOW / HEROES

Director: Renaud Cojo et al. (2014)

Music: Philip Glass

Film, dance, poetry, minimalist concert music and experimental urban music: LOW / HEROES is no ordinary film concert! It is an expanded visual and aural experience. As described by its creator Renaud Cojo, LOW / HEROES is a ‘Hyper-Cycle’ whose epicentre is the city of Berlin. Its urban landscape provides a narrative and cultural context while the music revolves around three main axes - David Bowie, Philip Glass and Brian Eno, whose compositions constantly reshape and influence each other.
